Robert Douglas Jackson (Doug) passed away July 8, 2024, at the age of 78. His niece Denise was with him at his passing. He was born August 1, 1945, in Jefferson, and retired there after a long teaching career in music.
Doug taught at several schools in Iowa, including North Polk County schools. He had very successful jazz bands at all of his schools. Doug mentored and taught hundreds of students throughout his career.
In his early days, Doug played in many dance and jazz bands around the state. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963. Doug went on to continue his studies at Northwest Missouri University in Maryville, MO, where he earned his bachelor’s in music and his master’s in music education.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Percy Merrit Jackson and Opal Marie Whitecotton Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard Dean Jackson (Dick), and sister-in-law Mary (Virginia) Jackson. Doug is survived by his niece Rhea (Denise) Jackson Gordon and great-niece Sara Marie Gordon.
Doug was privately interred in the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery, Jefferson. The family was assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home and Cremation Care.
